Learning Difficulties
Learning difficulties are caused by developmental delay, which may come in the forms of ADD and ADHD (attention deficit disorders).

But at Learning Connections, we don't rely on labels. We believe that each child is unique. The reasons why children may have learning problems are unique too.

Poor reading, comprehension, writing, mathematics and spelling are symptoms of learning difficulties - not causes. When the cause is overcome the symptoms disappear.

Learning Connections programs don't just treat the symptoms of learning difficulties. They treat underlying causes not addressed by existing remedial methods.

If your child displays any of the following signs, he or she could benefit from Learning Connections' help:
  • delayed motor milestones e.g. walking, sitting, crawling
  • delayed language and speech development, reading and spelling difficulties
  • health problems in early childhood e.g. frequent infections, especially ear infections
  • short attention for tasks, easily distracted, impulsive, unable to follow directions
  • difficulty with manual dexterity, poor pencil grip, poor handwriting
  • good at maths, but poor at language subjects
  • difficulty copying from far to near/black board to pad
  • demanding, problems making friends, mood swings, variations in performance

The Role of Neuro Developmental Programs in the Holistic Treatment of Children with Learning Difficulties, Attention Disorders and Behavioural Problems

Neuro Developmental Programs are part of Learning Connections' holistic approach to learning difficulties, attention disorders and behavioural problems. Learning Connections approach encompasses Reflex Inhibition and Sensory Motor Activities, Nutrition, Sound Therapy, Visual Perceptual Programs and whole brain learning activities.

A growing body of research supports the proposition that the continued presence of Primitive Reflexes beyond the normal age of inhibition plays a significant role in learning difficulties. Primitive Reflexes provide signposts of central nervous system immaturity. It is possible to promote maturity and to detect and correct minor dysfunctions in the central nervous system through the use of specific movements.

There is an underlying sequence of motor development. As aberrant reflexes are inhibited, and with sensory motor maturation, the neuro developmental delays that are at the root of the majority of learning difficulties are modified. This results in maturation of perceptual and motor functions leading to improved learning.
