Kickstart after school programs are designed as a boost for children who have:
- Short attention for tasks, are easily distracted, impulsive, unable to follow directions
- Report cards reading "could do better"
- Delayed motor milestones e.g. crawling, walking, speech
- Delayed language and speech development, reading and spelling difficulties
- Difficulty with maths, or good at maths, but poor at language subjects
- Social difficulties
- Had frequent ear infections and now have auditory processing delays
Tutoring is not the focus of Kickstart. All children are given a learning program. However, the focus is overcoming underlying causes of learning difficulties and not just treating the symptoms. Kickstart includes sensory motor maturation activities to promote brain maturity.
When learning difficulties are overcome, remedial programs are more effective. Research shows brain development can be altered through manipulation of environmental stimuli and experiences. Sensory stimulation enhances vital brain connections by providing a challenging variety of activities.
Individualised learning strategies include SMART activities (Stimulating Maturity through Accelerated Readiness Training). They specifically develop essential connections within the brain which lead to improved learning.
Sound Therapy is a part of each session and improves both auditory abilities and speed of processing. A range of visual and auditory activities are adapted for the individual child's needs.
